CHPA Legislative Support

The corporate housing
industry is often impacted by legislation targeted at other industries. This legislation often tangentially
references some aspect of providing housing.
CHPA’s government relations efforts focus on informing and educating
members on issues that could impact their businesses and ensure
members can own and operate their businesses without impediments. CHPA
members and professional staff have been actively working with and providing information
to legislators about the corporate housing industry.
CHPA’s government
relations efforts focus on three key areas, all related to providing housing:
- Bed Bugs/Pest Infestation – An increasing issue for
many industries, any legislation that mandates how an infestation is handled
and the responsibility throughout the process is of critical importance.
- Housing - CHPA members operate in a variety of housing
environments. Tracking legislation that
can impact these environments or the way in which members must operate within
them is vital to member companies’ relationships with these other
industries.
- Taxes - As legislatures seek new ways to increase
revenue, this often results in increasing taxes for businesses. This issue
is critically important to ensure that your company is aware of and operates in
a financially responsible manner.
CHPA’s Approach
It is in CHPA’s members’ best
interests to stay informed and educated on legislation that may impact their
businesses. CHPA facilitates members’ efforts
with a variety of resources.
- Communicate: CHPA
provides information to members on legislation in key focus areas, as well as
communicating issues of importance to members.
This information is highlighted in member communications and is always
available online for member use for research, updates, and status of pending
legislation.
- Educate: CHPA focuses on both educating members on the legislative process and
key issues, as well educating legislators on the industry. Informed and aware elected officials in the local,
state and federal arenas are less likely to support legislation that may
negatively impact members businesses if they understand the potential
ramifications. Together with members,
CHPA works to educate officials in understanding the industry and the need to
keep professional CHPA companies in business.
Awareness of the industry continues to be one of CHPA’s top
priorities.
- Advocate: If action is needed, CHPA provides or coordinates representation
of its members in the legislative process.
As an Association, CHPA mobilizes members in response to a threat to the
industry. CHPA’s legislative initiatives
coordinate members’ efforts in a unified response to legislation.
Collaborative Efforts
CHPA also
collaborates with other associations or related professional organizations to
formulate a cooperated response or approach to a specific issue, lending mutual
credibility and support to common interest issues.
CHPA
members may become aware of other issues that they feel will impact the
industry and their businesses. If you
have a local or state issue that has potential to impact the industry, please
bring this to the attention of CHPA leaders. Please contact CHPA CEO
