From our beginnings to today, CHPA has grown into the leading professional trade association exclusively dedicated to supporting corporate housing professionals worldwide.

humble Beginnings

The National Interim Housing Network (NIHN) emerged as the first national effort to unite temporary/interim housing providers, led by industry pioneers Ken Hixon and Bob Greenwald from Dallas, TX. Its goal was to create collective marketing power for member companies and open new business opportunities. However, NIHN faced challenges in aligning the priorities of small business owners who needed immediate returns on investment with a broader, unified marketing approach. Despite disbanding after a few years, NIHN laid the vital groundwork of camaraderie and industry unity that continues to thrive today.

a New Beginning

In 1996, the Association of Temporary Housing Providers (ATHP) was formed as a trade association with a fresh mission: to educate providers, elevate professionalism and foster cooperation beyond competition. Its founding board represented a broad spectrum of the industry, from large to mid-sized and smaller companies. As NIHN’s influence waned, its remaining members merged with ATHP, prompting a name change to the Association of Interim Housing Providers (AIHP), a nod to NIHN’s legacy. The organization’s evolution continued in 2002 with a name change to the Corporate Housing Providers Association (CHPA), reflecting the industry’s modern terminology and international growth.
